About Nu Sigma Foundation

The Nu Sigma Foundation was established as an idea during the 75th anniversary celebration of the Nu Sigma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi at Wayne State University in 2013. Brothers Ato Polk, Butler Benton, Curt Brunson, Derryk Burgess, Truman Hudson, RaShawn Hardy, James Harris, and Michael Carrauthers, discussed the idea of creating a foundation to support the scholarship and leadership efforts of current members of Nu Sigma Chapter. This milestone event honored the chapter’s long-standing commitment to scholarship, service, and leadership within the university and the broader Detroit community.

The 1st organizational meeting of the foundation took place in 2022 at the residence of Curtis Brunson where Brother James Harris Esq., was elected as the 1st chairman. The foundation was created as a means to further the fraternity’s mission by providing financial support, mentorship, and educational resources to students and aspiring leaders. Through scholarships and community initiatives, the Nu Sigma Foundation aimed to strengthen the legacy of Omega Psi Phi and empower future generations to excel academically and professionally.

During the 75th anniversary celebration held at the Greektown Hotel, fraternity members, alumni, and supporters gathered to commemorate the chapter’s rich history and the impact it had made over the decades. The foundation’s creation reinforced the fraternity’s core values of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift, ensuring that its influence would continue to grow within Wayne State University and the surrounding community.
